“Some of the Jews, however, spurned God’s message and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against Paul and Barnabas. But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.” –Acts 14:2-3
We all have people in our lives that don’t know Christ. Often times, it gets frustrating when they don’t get it. Time and time again, they continue to reject the eternal gift that Christ gives us. They spurn you constantly when you bring up their relationship with Christ in conversation, or turn down every invitation to church. It’s frustrating, saddening and after so many “no’s,” we begin to feel hopeless in this endeavor.
In the scripture, Paul and Barnabas reach this point. Not only were the Jews not receiving their message, they were trying to prevent the Gentiles from receiving the message, too. Instead of giving up, Paul and Barnabas “stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord.”
Continue on boldly, not only preaching the grace of God, but living your life by it; otherwise, the message is vain rhetoric. Words are just words. You can speak truth into the person’s life, but they’ll continue to have doubt because their minds have been poisoned by the world around them. It might take awhile. Hardened hearts don’t soften in a fifteen minute conversation.
For Paul and Barnabas, “the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.” We have the same power, the Holy Spirit is with us. When we’re consistent, living by the fruit of the Spirit, speaking Truth into the lives of those who don’t know Christ, God’s power and presence will begin to have influence on their life. Remember, we will overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony. God proves our message through our testimony, how we’ve been completely consumed by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.
